The space and light of Colorado where I grew up are important (reflected) in my work.

I usually work on one piece at a time but then later oftentimes go back and add and subtract.

I work in layers, creating then obscuring, revealing then hiding.

I create thin layers of acrylic medium, usually tinted, to build up layers of my pieces.

The scariest part of creation is before the piece finds it’s own voice, before it is able to engage in some kind of dialogue with me.

The most wonderful and mysterious part of the creative process is that of losing control then being surprised at the unexpected results which ensue.

Sometimes I listen to TV and or the radio when I work. Other times I need absolute quiet.

Right now I am finding that I can’t seem to get enough of red in my life.

Sanding, squegeeing, scraping is my idea of drawing.

Creating “gel skins”, dripping, spraying, spreading gel medium with the palette knife, all done in unpredictable ways is my way of painting.

These deliberately uncontrollable manipulations of materials which I know well and love to work with determines the direction my work takes.

I feel that chance plays a big role in my work and I like to be surprised by the results.
