Landscape inspires and informs the images I  paint. Until recently, the autumn landscape has been the main focus of my work due to the long shadows, warm light and vivid colors which characterize this season. These have been complex works focusing on trees and vegetation from a relatively close perspective in a park or park like setting.
My artistic interest has recently shifted to vistas of skies and the prairie and foothills regions in spring, summer and fall.  In particular, the foothills region of South West Alberta will now be a major focus of my work for some time to come. These works will be large in format in order to do justice to the vastness and beauty of this area.

Gordon Lewis was born and raised in Regina and later went on to study fine art at the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. He earned his bachelors degree with a double major in art and economics.
Upon graduation he received a job working as an economist for Environment Canada.  Though he continued to work for them for the next 27 years he consistently maintained a good studio practice in his spare time. In 2002 he retired from economics to pursue his life long love of painting and has been painting full time ever since then.
His first solo exhibition was held at the Assiniboia Gallery in Regina in 2006.  Over the last few years Gordon has appeared in group and solo exhibitions in Western Canada. Gordon paintings hang now in numerous private and corporate collections throughout Canada.
