It wasn’t until I was in my forty’s that I saw, for the first time, the beauty of a cylinder growing on the potters wheel and I fell in love with clay. After twenty years of making functional wheel thrown pots, a move to East Sooke sparked a change. Inspired by the rocks, moss and trees around me, I began exploring texture. Cactus skins and seed pods, computer chips and grinding gears are a few of the countless tools I use to impress texture on the clay slabs I use to build a variety of forms - everything from vases to two and 1/2 dimensional shapes to paintings. In my eighty’s now I still have fun exploring new ways to use this exquisitely responsive medium. - Marlene Bowman
